ABOUT US
ITF (In The Field) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the social + emotional development of black and brown high-risk youth through sports based social emotional learning opportunities geared towards improving overall mental health and wellness outcomes.
ITF was founded to deliver culturally competent and relevant social emotional support to the BIPOC community. We have a keen focus on addressing the social + emotional learning and wellness needs of high-risk youth with aggressive exposure to and engagement in urban violence.
ITF has developed a sport-based SEL & Wellness program where we mix SEL coaching/mentorship with the sport of competitive paintball (as well as video games and VR) to help heal trauma & PTSD in our black/brown high-risk youth and reduce gang/gun violence.

Our Mission
ITF's mission is to reduce urban gang & gun violence by addressing the mental health and wellness needs of BIPOC high risk youth, empowering them as they heal from trauma, reclaim their mental well-being, and become resilient leaders within their communities. We strive to create a supportive and culturally competent environment where individuals can thrive and transform their lives.

Our Approach
We use a Sports Based Social + Emotional Learning (SEL)/ Mental Health Care framework, utilizing the specific psychotherapeutic benefits of paintball (and video games!) on those with excessive exposure to gun violence. By mixing clinical therapy and counseling with sport play, ITF uses gamification to engage youth in a dynamic and immersive experience. This approach helps them confront and process past traumas, build resilience, and develop healthier coping mechanisms.
Why Paintball?
Paintball offers a safe and controlled environment for exposure therapy. It helps youth reframe their perceptions of violence, manage their emotions, and build a strong sense of community. The physical and strategic aspects of paintball also promote teamwork, communication, and leadership skills.
